The home phone rang around 8:30, yes we still have a landline.

“Hello,” I said, into the handset.

“Hey, Bill, is Tina there?” It was Betty, my wife’s BFF and the woman she was supposed to be meeting at The Corral, a popular country-western bar on the other side of town.

“Uh, no. She’s on her way to meet you.”

“Oh, shit. I’ll give her cell a ring. Something’s come up and I can’t join her tonight.”

“Hope everything’s okay.” I liked Betty and would have hated to hear anything bad had happened to her.

“Oh, yeah, it’s nothing,” she said. “Just my neighbor called in a favor and needs me to babysit her three-year-old brat.”

“I’m sure Tina will be sad to hear that.” Actually, I was the one who would be saddest. Every time my wife came home from one of her girl’s nights, she was revved up and we had hot, nasty sex. Guess I wasn’t going to get lucky tonight.

“She’ll get over it. Talk to ya later Bill.” She hung up before I could say goodbye.

Well, maybe we could salvage the evening with a little romantic comedy. When Tina got home I’d ask her if she’d like to watch the new Amy Adams flick. If we couldn’t get down and dirty, maybe that would get her in the mood for some cuddly sex at least.

I expected my wife to call me a few minutes later telling me she was on the way home. After a half-hour with no word, I figured she wasn’t going to notify me and just show up, so I cued up the movie on Netflix and waited.

At 9:30 I started to worry, so I texted my wife.
